So, how did we get here?

For the most part, Matheson Rae came to be as a result of hard work and a vision to be the best we can be in our field. We’re guessing this, too, is not unlike your own business journey.

Combining around 60 years of accounting experience, Matheson Rae was officially born in May 2022, when the paths of Grant Rae and Hamish Matheson aligned.

Formerly Grant Rae Chartered Accountants, the business was originally established by Grant in 1993.

Fellow Cantabrian, and current director Hamish was on his own accounting journey, one which saw him work in accounting, banking and fund management roles in Christchurch, Wellington and London, before settling in Marlborough.

There, he spent 16 years working for respected accounting firm Wallace Diack Chartered Accountants, the latter 13 of which he was a company director and shareholder.

In 2022, Hamish’s decision to return to his hometown of Christchurch aligned with Grant’s decision to step back from business ownership, and the handing over of the business commenced, resulting in the establishment of Matheson Rae.

Under the new banner, Hamish continues to provide excellent chartered accounting and business advisory services with support from Grant as a consultant, as well as the wider Matheson Rae team.

Following the passing of David Philpott, the team at Matheson Rae have been working closely with the staff of Philpott & Associates to ensure the continuation of accounting services, advice and support for their valued clients, and have welcomed all of their staff to our team.
